Task 4 evaluation

Task 4 Evaluation

What went well with my magazine was that in my opinion, the overall layout of my magazine and my font consistently was good, this was backed up by my audience feedback ‘The fonts and overall style of the magazine are consistent’ which shows that my magazine follows a structure.

The overall photography of my Front cover and Contents page were classed as ordinary. In my opinion, the picture on the front of the magazine is of a BTEC music student which links to the masthead, which is student voice, however when I asked a student about how they felt about this image they said that the overall image is angled and placed nicely, but they felt that the image had no link to the rest of the magazine, and that the background is quite boring. The pictures used on the contents page are classed as quite nice, in my opinion, I have tried to use different angles as well as ranging in distance being close up etc. My photographs also link to what’s being featured in the contents page. On my blog, no one who commented spoke about my photography, which makes me think that none of the pictures were alarming and/or that bad.

The way that my images were placed were also not commented on, however in my opinion, my images were placed quite nicely, as in the contents page they follow a structure on the left hand side of the page and then the main image from the front cover on the right. The images have a controlled brightness/contrast which makes them easier to see, however, if I was to re manipulate the front cover image I would add more brightness and less contrast as there are quite harsh shadows on the face.  My page layout was commented on as being consistent, with different sections of the pages being clearly identified, as well as this, my font was commented on as being consistent, showing that my layout and fonts combined nicely together, which is what I wanted, however, I was also told that the overall layout looked quite shabby, meaning that works were cut off and the margins were not always consistent, which is what I could improve on. With cover lines and such, I was told that some of my text could have been moved around to areas so they would have been easier to read, as well as organising the layout of text and writing.

I think that if I had the chance to improve, I would change where the text is placed, as I agree that some of the text is unclear and unappealing, I would also add more colour to the page, as I only used black white and a tiny bit of green. As well as this, I would possibly place the masthead differently, as it doesn't stand out as much as it could.

Three key points for development when producing the main task –
·         Placement for text is very important, always think about composition and layout
·         Make sure that the quality control of the magazine is more consistent and less Lacklustre

·         Make sure my cover line (s) are clear
